Amphotericin B is a macrocyclic antibiotic and also exhibits strong antifungal effects. Resistance to amphotericin B rarely occurs. This antibiotic attaches to the fungal cell wall, destroys membrane permeability, and therefore causes leakage of intracellular components.
One of the applications of amphotericin B in microbiology is its use in supplementing CCDA, Bolton Broth, and Oxford media.
