Cefoperazone is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This antibiotic is effective against various bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae.
Cefoperazone binds to the proteins attached to penicillin present on the surface of bacteria and thereby inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan. The mechanism of action of cefoperazone is different from other antibiotics as it does not target the synthesis of the cell wall or protein.
