Two chromogenic substrates are used for preparing salmonella chromogenic culture media. One substrate is specifically hydrolyzed by Salmonella strains. The second substrate is hydrolyzed by coliforms and allows for rapid and reliable identification of Salmonella strains. As a result, Salmonella strains are identified as magenta and Klebsiella strains as green-blue.
