Description
Malt extract is a water soluble extracted from barley and is used for the growth and proliferation of yeasts and molds due to its high amounts of carbohydrates, especially maltose. The amount of reducing sugars in malt extract is usually around 60-63%. This substance is usually used in amounts between 1-10% in the composition of culture media and provides carbon, protein, and other nutrients. Malt extract specifically helps in spore formation of molds such as Aspergillus and Penicillium.
STORAGE:
The container containing malt extract powder should be stored away from direct light and at a temperature below 30 degrees Celsius, with a prepared medium stored at a temperature of 2-8 degrees Celsius. The best time to use is before the expiration date printed on the product label.
